Radios failed, telegraph lines were cut, but these birds delivered messages across battlefields, through smoke and fire, often while wounded. One pigeon, Cher Ami, flew 25 miles in just 25 minutes—blind in one eye, shot through the chest, and with a leg hanging by a thread. Yet her message saved nearly 200 trapped soldiers. These “feathered soldier
