Why Did Britannic Sink So Fast? (55 minutes) On November 21, 1916, HMHS Britannic struck a German mine off the coast of Greece. The explosion flooded the forward compartments — but what made her sink much faster was that many portholes were left open for ventilation while she was serving as a hospital ship.
