The Pere Marquette 1225, also known as “the real Polar Express,” is one of two surviving Pere Marquette 2-8-4 locomotives. Built in 1941 and fully restored in 1985, the train is listed on the national register of historic places. It has been under the care of the Steam Railroading Institute of Owosso, MI (formerly the Michigan State University Railroad Club) since 1969.
