Did you know the spring has a different spelling than the Meramec River? The spring used the same spelling after the Maramec Iron Works in 1829. Sometime in the early 1920s the State of Missouri decided to adopt the Spelling " Meramec " for the river. Then in 1927 the State opened Meramec State Park using the newly adopted spelling.
