When Royal Caribbean launched Icon of the Seas last January, it introduced a new era of family cruise vacations.

Celebrity will begin taking bookings this year for Celebrity River Cruises, a new premium river cruise offshoot that will begin sailing in 2027. Royal Caribbean and Silversea could be next.

Royal Caribbean provided a robust profit forecast and reported a bottom-line beat in its fourth-quarter earnings report, helped by stronger pricing on close-in demand and continued strength in onboard revenue.

The company's namesake cruise line has kept its Casino Royale benefits in place for the past few years, but its sister cruise line, Celebrity Cruises, made major benefit cuts. Celebrity Blue Chip players lost guaranteed freeplay, and Sapphire and higher players no longer receive a free classic drink package.

Royal Caribbean said on Tuesday that 2025 was shaping up "to be another great year", with a near 23% jump expected in adjusted earnings, as it benefits from higher bookings at record prices and new river cruise itineraries.

Celebrity plans to launch 10 river cruise ships starting in 2027. It would be Royal Caribbean Group's first major foray into the booming industry.

Bookings are already off to a record start in 2025 for Royal Caribbean, and the company is now set to expand its offerings further by breaking into river cruises, the CEO told Skift.
