The post office in Plains, Georgia, was officially renamed for President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn. The Sumter County town is about 150 miles south of Atlanta. Congress passed legislation in January allowing the post office to be renamed in their honor.

The Plains Post Office now officially bears the names of former President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter following a dedication ceremony Wednesday morning that drew hundreds to the small Georgia town.

PLAINS, Ga. (WALB) - The post office in Georgia will now go by a new name — The “President Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter” post office. The dedication of the post office on July 2 honored the former president and first lady for their service and commitment to not only Plains, but to South Georgia and to the world.
