Seattle’s Allen Institute will play a key role in a groundbreaking space mission this weekend. The Allen Institute for Cell Science is providing stem cells that will launch aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket late Saturday night.

The project, which is part of NASA's In Space Production Applications (InSPA) program, is led by the company United Semiconductors LLC, in collaboration with Axiom Space and Redwire. The crystals for the wafer were grown aboard the ISS in low Earth orbit, approximately 250 miles (402 kilometers) above our planet.
