The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has been called to investigate how a man died after being arrested by Memphis police officers Tuesday morning.

A man died in MPD custody following a "medical emergency," during which police and firefighters attempted aid. TBI is investigating the incident, including his alleged involvement in a kidnapping.

Police said the man who died was suspected of a kidnapping. Police said it all started just before 1:50 a.m., when officers responded to a disturbance on Rayner Street off East Person Avenue in South Memphis. A man was placed in police custody before he experienced a "medical emergency," MPD said.
