This year saw heightened Down syndrome awareness even before World Down Syndrome Day drew near. Baby supplies company Gerber chose its first “spokesbaby” with Down syndrome, one-year-old Lucas.

"We've celebrated 10,000 babies in 51 countries and all 51 states," she said. The baskets are delivered by parents of children with a Down syndrome diagnosis, to new parents facing the same journey.
