Netflix 's "Bling Empire: New York" star and jewelry designer Lynn Ban has died after recently being involved in a ski accident and undergoing brain surgery. She was 51. Ban's son, Sebastian, shared the tragic news on her Instagram account on Wednesday.
Shares of Netflix soared 13% to an all-time high on Wednesday after the streaming giant's big bet on sports helped add a record 18.9 million subscribers in the holiday quarter, ballooning its already sizeable advantage over other players.
In an email to CBS MoneyWatch, Netflix said it's boosting its subscription plans for American customers by about $1 to $2.50 per month, depending on the plan. A standard plan with ads will rise to $7.99 a month from the current $6.99
Netflix revealed it has now reached 301.63 million subscribers globally when it reported its fourth-quarter 2024 earnings Tuesday.
Revenue in the fourth quarter jumped 16% year-over-year, reaching $10.25 billion, higher than the $10.11 billion Wall Street had predicted.
Netflix’s 2025 subscription prices include: The ad-supported tier at $7.99 per month, up from $6.99. The standard ad-free tier at $17.99 per month, up from $15.49. The premium tier at $24.99 per month, up from $22.99.
Under the new pricing in the U.S., Netflix’s Standard plan without ads will rise by $2.50 — going from $15.49 to $17.99 per month. It’s been three years since Netflix upped the pricing of the Standard tier, which provides two simultaneous HD streams.
Even so, the Paramount Plus spin-off starring Michelle Yeoh as her “Star Trek: Discovery” character Emperor Philippa Georgiou has its entertaining moments. It's mainly constrained by being stuck in an awkward middle ground between current “Star Trek” TV and the franchise’s tradition of expansive theatrical releases.
The show featuring the two comedians and actors will take place at The Wiltern in Los Angeles on Monday, Jan. 27.
