The Supreme Court delivered a major win to President Donald Trump on Friday in his ongoing war with the federal judiciary, limiting the power of courts to step in and block policies on a nationwide basis in the short term while judges review their legality.

The court's decision left enough room for the challengers to Trump's directive to try to prevent it from taking effect while litigation over its legality plays out.

Hours after the decision was released, the American Civil Liberties Union filed a nationwide class-action lawsuit challenging Trump’s order restricting birthright citizenship. More lawyers and state attorneys may soon file additional suits seeking a broad shield from other executive orders.
