A dozen students at Salisbury University on Maryland’s Eastern Shore have been charged with hate crimes after police say they assaulted a gay man. Charging documents say one of the defendants made a fake account on a dating app and lured the man to an apartment by promising him sex with a 16-year-old.

The Salisbury Police Department said it has charged 12 men in connection to a hate crime after they targeted and beat a man due to his sexual orientation in October. The 12 men who were accused are students at Salisbury University,

Sigma Alpha Epsilon expelled the students in their organization who are accused of being involved in a hate crime incident in October at Salisbury University in Wicomico, a spokesperson for the national organization said Monday.
