Jimmy Patronis, Florida’s chief financial officer, is the Republican favorite to fill the vacant congressional seat after President Trump endorsed him.

Republican primary voters in Florida’s 1st and 6th Congressional Districts will pick the likely successors to former representatives Matt Gaetz and Michael Waltz, respectively.

Two Republicans endorsed by President Donald Trump will win their special primaries Tuesday, moving one step closer to bringing Speaker Mike Johnson a little breathing room for the GOP’s narrow majority in the House.

Florida will hold two special election primaries on Tuesday to replace President Trump’s national security adviser Mike Walz in the sixth congressional district and former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.)

The Associated Press has called the Florida 6th Congressional District Special Primary election with Senator Randy Fine as the winner.

Update: Jimmy Patronis and Randy Fine swept their respective primaries in congressional special elections. Patronis had 65.6% of the vote in CD 1 with 65% of the vote counted. There was no Democratic primary so Patronis will face Gay Valimont.

Democrats, torn nationally between progressive and moderate wings of the party, will have a similar choice in the Jan. 28 special primary election for U.S. House in Florida's 6th District.
