Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said the additional troops will work alongside federal border agents amid the Trump administration's crackdown on immigrants.

The troops, part of a unit called the Texas Tactical Border Force, will join those already deployed to the border through Texas' Operation Lone Star.

Hours after being sworn in, President Trump fulfilled his campaign promises to crackdown on illegal immigration. The President declared an emergency at the southern border, and as a result, there have already been many changes to policy.

The newly deployed forces will join thousands of Texas National Guard soldiers already stationed at the border as part of Operation Lone Star.
