As more studies emerge and consumer advocacy grows, we may see additional changes in how artificial dyes are used.
However, mounting scientific evidence suggests that consuming Red 3 poses significant health risks. These risks prompted California to ban its use in food in 2023 and the Food and Drug Administration to ban its use in both food and pharmaceuticals nationwide on Jan. 15, 2025.

The FDA said the 8-ounce cartons of whole organic milk were produced by Horizon Organic Dairy, LLC and distributed in Arizona, California and Nevada. At least 19,688 cartons have been affected by the recall.
