The Pittsburgh Penguins this week headed out for the West Coast portion of their season-long road trip with, at least at first, mixed results. A win that could serve as a template for how to play. Then a loss that left the Penguins perhaps wanting to throw away the game tape.
Penguins brass is pleased with how the crop of forwards is developing in Wilkes-Barre. If the Penguins stay within range of a playoff spot, don’t be surprised to see at least one, and possibly more, of these players promoted to Pittsburgh. The Big Three would surely welcome it.
The Pittsburgh Penguins might hold their breath a little while longer regarding the status of winger Bryan Rust. Rust left the Penguins’ 5-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks later in the second period after defenseman Radko Gudas delivered a heavy check along the boards.

A nothing sort of play became a goal against after two, if not three, Pittsburgh Penguins (20-23-8) went to the wrong spots. A 2-1 game within reach became another meandering Penguins loss.
The Seattle Kraken and the Pittsburgh Penguins take the ice in a non-conference matchup. Seattle is 21-25-3 overall and 11-11-3 at home. The Kraken have a -13 scoring differential, with 142 total goals scored and 155 allowed.
The untouchables remain the same and would not be placed on the block by the Penguins to get a deal going with the Sabres. Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Bryan Rust, Philip Tomasino and promising defenseman Owen Pickering are not for sale and the Pens have other trade chips to offer to Buffalo in order to land younger players:
