The Cleveland Guardians announced on Thursday that right-handed pitcher Franco Aleman underwent surgery to repair an inguinal hernia on Wednesday in Phoenix, Arizona. The right-hander’s expected recovery time is 4-6 weeks.

The Arizona Diamondbacks dropped the first of a pair of split squad games in Goodyear against the Cleveland Guardians on Thursday by a score of 4-0. Right-hander Ryne Nelson made his first start of the Cactus League.

When the Arizona Diamondbacks play the Cleveland Guardians at Salt River Fields on Monday at 1:10 p.m., long-term Ace Zac Gallen will be on the mound for his first outing of the Cactus League. There is no broadcast of the game.
