WBTV’s Investigation reveals more than 100 dams across North Carolina have outstanding deficiencies, and are in poor or unsatisfactory condition, according to NCDEQ records.

Officials said Friday that a "catastrophic failure" was not taking place at Walters Dam, also known as the Waterville Dam, which sits in North Carolina close to the Tennessee border.

Residents in Newport, North Carolina were ordered to leave on Friday afternoon, after the Waterville Dam that sits across state lines was placed under a state of emergency.
