An Instagram-famous squirrel named Peanut was seized from his owner on Wednesday, October 30th, and people everywhere are outraged; so much so that there's a petition that's already been signed by nearly 25 thousand people to get Peanut back home.

Peanut the squirrel, the Instagram-famous rodent whose killing by New York State environmental officers became a brief election flashpoint, did not have rabies after all, officials have said.

Social media star Peanut the squirrel has been killed after authorities seized him and a raccoon called Fred in a raid on their caretaker’s home. Mark Longo said he took Peanut into his Pine City home after seeing his mother get hit by a car in New York City 10 years ago.
