More than 70 cats were found at a home in the Town of Grafton after a We Energies worker checked the property for a report of no electricity, water, or gas.

A welfare check at a Town of Grafton residence led the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office to discover the homeowner and dozens of cats living in “unhabitable" conditions, officials said.

Some cats will be available for adoption soon, others will need temporary foster homes, the Wisconsin Humane Society says.

Responding deputies spoke to the elderly homeowner and determined that the house wasn’t fit for habitation by either the person or the 73 cats that were eventually removed from the home.
