Hundreds of benefit claimants were paid over £20,000 each in error by the DWP - and allowed to keep the cash. Over 500 people were overpaid benefits such as Universal Credit, with £329million in overpayments being written off by the Government department.

Additionally, those on PIP, Attendance Allowance, or Disability Living Allowance are required to inform the DWP if they plan to be away for four weeks or more. However, under normal circumstances, these benefits can still be claimed for up to 13 weeks while overseas.

The Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ) has unveiled new figures showing that 325,867 reviews are still pending for claimants who may have been underpaid.
