WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department is poised to crack down on leaks of information to the news media, authorizing prosecutors to issue subpoenas to news organizations as part of leak investigations, serve search warrants when appropriate and force journalists to testify about their sources.

Attorney General Pam Bondi reversed a Biden-era policy that restricted federal prosecutors from seizing reporters' communications records, according to an internal memo obtained by CBS News.

At least three medical journals have received letters from U.S. Department of Justice that questioned their editorial practices and standards, prompting several journals to push back and assert their independence.
