Andy Muschietti, director of The Flash, IT, and DCU's upcoming Batman film, wants to adapt Shadow of the Colossus into a feature film.

Shadow of the Colossus was originally released in 2005 for PS2 from director Fumito Ueda. The game has players traversing the world to defeat colossal monsters. A new version of the game from Bluepoint Games was released in 2018 for PS4.

The first whispers of a film adaptation of the already cinematic Shadow of the Colossus began in 2010. After several creative reshuffles, The Flash director Andrés Muschietti was hired in 2014. Over a decade later, Muschietti claims it's still happening.

Muschietti claimed it wasn’t “an abandoned project by any means,” adding, “I love that film, there is a script that I like a lot.” However, he acknowledged that securing his desired budget for the project remained an obstacle.

Conversations about a Shadow of the Colossus movie have been around since the late 2000s. However, with such little movement on the project over the years, many fans assumed that the movie was effectively caught in development limbo.

While news on the Shadow of the Colossus adaptation has been pretty thin on the ground for years, a new update from the director sounds pretty positive. It director Andy Muschietti said that the movie isn't an "abandoned project" in a recent interview,

"I'm not a big gamer, but Shadow of the Colossus seems to me a masterpiece and I played it several times," Muschietti said. "The film has been in development for 10 years and now

Director Andrés Muschietti plans to bring the Shadow of the Colossus movie project back to life after 10 years. Muschietti faces hurdles in financing the project, needing studio support due to the potentially high budget.
