Officials say they are assessing the extent of the damage as the Taj Mahal’s gardens flooded with water during sustained heavy rainfall

The Taj Mahal temple was devastated by floods as heavy rains battered northern India. Footage shows the iconic building surrounded by deluge as strong winds blew in Uttar Pradesh on September 12. There were efforts to pump out water but to no avail as it still flowed to the building complex.

“We saw leakage in the main dome of the Taj Mahal. But when we checked, we found it was due to seepage and there was no damage to the main dome. We have checked the main dome using a drone camera,” Superintending Archaeologist of Agra Circle, Rajkumar Patel said. The ASI is continuously monitoring if the leakage is continuous or intermittent.

Stating that they have witnessed the leakage in the main dome of the Taj Mahal, Rajkumar Patel, Superintending Chief of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), told PTI, "When we checked it was due to seepage and there was no damage to the main dome. We have checked the main dome through a drone camera."

Serious concerns are being raised about the Taj Mahal's neglect after the renowned Mughal monument's main dome leaked in rain.
