Against Notre Dame Friday, the No. 9 Michigan hockey team largely relied on seldom scorers in order to win, 5-3.

Michigan had averaged 1.5 goals in its previous eight games but scored all five in the first 32 minutes Friday. Notre Dame pulled to within two late in the period and outshot the Wolverines 13-7 in the third, but Logan Stein shut the door, finishing with 28 saves.

The Fighting Irish officially skated away with a 3-3 tie, but they outlasted Penn State 2-1 in an eight-round shootout to clinch a two-point boost in the Big Ten standings.

The Wolverines rally from an early 2-0 deficit to score five unanswered goals to beat the Fighting Irish at Compton Family Ice Arena.

Now that the football team has taken care of business it is time for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish hockey team to do the same. This weekend the Irish will be at home for their second series of the season against the Michigan Wolverines.
