Karisma Kapoor is the first-born of Raj Kapoor's son Randhir Kapoor and Babita. In the book Raj Kapoor: The One and Only Showman, written by his daughter Ritu Nanda, Babita shared that her father Hari Shivdasani and Raj would play tennis when she was a child.

Raj Kapoor did not visit Babita in the hospital when Karisma Kapoor was born and kept a condition and declared that he will visit the baby only if his condition is fulfilled.
