Birmingham, Manchester and HS2

The high speed rail developer has submitted proposals to carry out repairs at the historic building near the new HS2 Birmingham city centre terminus. The revised design of the new station, which is set to become a key destination on the divisive HS2 line, was approved last year.
The local council echoes the Labour MP's views on the inclusion of Crewe, also describing the announcement as "positive". "Our position remains clear - Crewe must be placed at the heart of any future rail plans," said the leaders of Cheshire East Council.
Stations that HS2 will serve are: London Euston; the current capital hub for trains to the west midlands and north west, Old Oak Common; a new station in Harlesden, north west London, which will provide a link to the Elizabeth line when it opens,
Proposals by HS2 to carry out ‘essential’ works at Birmingham's old Curzon Street Station have been recommended for approval.
The scheme will be delivered in phases, starting with upgrades to lines between Leeds, York, Bradford and Sheffield.
