Tropical Cyclone Narelle remains a severe category three system as it moves across Cape York in Far North Queensland. Residents are reporting extreme winds have felled trees and damaged roofs as the system barrels across the cape towards the Gulf of Carpentaria.

The latest warning from the Bureau of Meteorology covers a big chunk of the Cape York Peninsula between Lockhart River and Cape Flattery, north of Cairns. The cyclone is due to cross the coast in that area about 7am today (8am AEDT).
