Sam Hauser left Monday’s Celtics game against the Detroit Pistons with an ankle sprain and is questionable to return.

The Pistons are 5-1 in their last six games, including wins over the Hawks and Heat, and they’re 8-3 on their travels this year. One of those losses came in a nail-biter at TD Garden in November, where Cade Cunningham & Co. almost overcame Boston's 47% night from 3-point range.

The Celtics had a clean injury report, but they had a relatively late addition ahead of the Pistons game Monday.

The Detroit Pistons face off against the Boston Celtics for the third time this season, with each team taking one game in the series. The Pistons won the first matchup by six and lost the second by three.

Derrick White scored 14 points in the fourth quarter against the Pistons on Monday, but the Celtics couldn't complete the comeback.

Following his first three-game losing streak in two years, Jaylen Brown reiterated a belief he had stated several times before. This was in late October, after a frustrating road loss to the Detroit Pistons. At 0-3, Brown and the Boston Celtics were in an unfamiliar situation. He still wanted to give his young team time.

In the final five minutes, Brown hit a 3-pointer and blocked two shots to help Boston cut a nine-point deficit to two. But he also had a turnover, a shooting foul and, most consequentially, two missed free throws during that closing stretch.

The Boston Celtics suffered through a tale of two halves on Thursday, starting out red hot against the Milwaukee Bucks in Wisconsin, only to go completely ice cold in the second half. Holding a seven-point lead at halftime, the Celtics would not make a single 3-point attempt in the third quarter, in which they only scored a total of 13 points.

The Warriors are dealing with a host of injury issues amid a slow start to the season, and a recurrence of a concerning Al Horford back issue is one worth noting. The former Celtics big man missed his fourth straight game on Sunday night for Golden State and has suited up in just one game since November 24 after being diagnosed with right sciatic nerve irritation.
