According to the Western Fire Chiefs Association, California faces fire risk year-round, but peak fire season varies. In Northern California, it typically runs from June or July through late October or November. Meanwhile, in Southern California, it starts earlier, running from May or June through October.

Another big wildfire is burning at the opposite edge of Fresno County. Salt 14-2 started on Sept. 2 south of Coalinga and has burned more than 25,000 acres. It was 50% contained on Sept. 9, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said.
