A Roswell police officer was killed while responding to a call about a suspicious person at a shopping center.

Channel 2 Action News has learned that a police officer was shot and killed Friday night at a shopping center in Roswell. On Saturday morning, the GBI identified the suspect as 23-year-old Edward Espinoza.

According to the GBI, when the officer approached the suspect for questioning, Espinoza allegedly pulled a handgun and fired multiple shots at the officer. A witness called 911 and the responding officers arrested Espinoza. The officer was taken to a local hospital but died from their injuries. The officer's identity has not been released.
