As cities throughout the country celebrate Memorial Day on May 26, Northern Michigan has its own parades and ceremonies planned.
Now that power is restored and fallen trees have been cleared, communities up north are ready for visitors and tourists for Memorial Day weekend.
Each beach’s status is subject to change as new test results come in. To see an up-to-date map of the red-flagged beaches and details on the water quality tests, check the Beach Guard website here, by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy.
Beyond Friday's chance of a stray shower, the wet weather has mostly left the Metro Detroit forecast as warmer air moves in for the Memorial Day holiday.
Showers will remain possible through this evening, but should wind down shortly after midnight if they’re still ongoing at that point. We expect skies to be variable through the overnight hours, with more clouds the farther north and east in the area you go, with more clearing patches to the south and west.
You might see people wearing the poppy, a roundish, red flower on a lapel — especially on the Friday before Memorial Day.
