There's a new sheriff in town for Charleston County as Sheriff elect Carl Ritchie was sworn in Tuesday morning.His swearing in comes after the historic election

Two Lowcountry counties are ushering in the new year with new sheriffs. Carl Ritchie (R) will be sworn in as the new Charleston County Sheriff during a 9 a.m. ceremony Tuesday in the Charleston County Council Chambers at the Lonnie Hamilton Public Services Building in North Charleston.

The former police chief of Mount Pleasant took the oath of office Tuesday morning to become Charleston County’s new sheriff.

The sheriff-elect previously served on Mount Pleasant's Town Council and was town's police chief. Ritchie looks forward to his new role with initiatives being planned already.
