Faust brought an outgoing personality and unwavering optimism that were refreshing. He deserved the fairytale everyone expected when he was hired.

Gerry Faust, the gravel-voiced Cincinnati high school coach who lived a dream by becoming the coach at Notre Dame, has died. He was 89.

Faust, also known as "Fuzzy," spent 18 years as Moeller's head coach before leaving to coach at the University of Notre Dame. He finished with a record of 178-23-2, Moeller reported.
