Alabama has executed a man who said he was guilty of a woman's rape and murder and deserved to die. Fifty-five-year-old James Osgood received a lethal injection Thursday evening at a south Alabama prison.

James Osgood, 55, was pronounced dead at 6:35 p.m. CDT following a lethal injection at a south Alabama prison, authorities said.

The execution involved five attempts to insert an IV line, according to the Alabama Department of Corrections. Alabama has executed James Osgood for the rape and murder of Tracy Lynn Wilemon nearly 25 years ago.
